Putting a lot of effort into starting a business is a very difficult thing to do, especially if on top of your workload you are battling your worries. Fear is an emotion that can either make us or break us, and as entrepreneurs, we much decide which path to take.
It can be hard to focus on what’s going right when all we can think about is what might go wrong, which is why to feel better, we should change what we focus on. It’s often too easy to focus on the negative, but by flipping the way we think of things on their head, it can immediately improve our mood.
Swapping a negative thought into a positive is a helpful tool for when things feel too much. You can practice on the weather. When it’s cold and rainy, we might be inclined to focus on the fact that it’s too cold to be comfortable outside and that it’s wet and horrible. But when we flip that, it becomes a fantastic phenomenon, because we can be cosy and warm inside with the fire on, while the plants outside get healthier for the rain.
More helpful, and sometimes more reliable than our own heads and completely changing the way we think, is making sure you’re surrounded by the right people who will be able to support you through hard times. Think about the people around you who you can talk to. Sometimes we can talk to different people about different things. Who can you talk to about starting a business?
It’s great to talk! If you know who to talk to, make sure you talk to them about the things that are worrying you. Sometimes just saying what’s worrying you is enough to feel better. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘get it off your chest’? That is exactly what that means. Once you’ve spoken about your worries, it can sometimes feel like a weight has been lifted from your chest.
